Danny O’Brien Recovers From Early Race Incident to Score Sixth Place Finish at the BOS; Canadian Nationals Series at Cornwall Postponed Again

After earning his first win of the 2013 season at Brockville just a week ago, Danny O’Brien and his team were looking forward to going back to the track to try and make it two in a row. They also planned to attend the opening night at Cornwall Speedway after last weekend’s 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race had been postponed.

O’Brien started his qualifying heat race from the fifth position and had advanced to third place before the end of the eight lap race. The team made a few adjustments to the car before the 30 lap main event, and Danny lined up from the 16th starting position. O’Brien made his way forward in the opening laps, climbing as high as 13th by lap seven, when he was involved in an incident in turn four. Danny was able to continue but would have to restart from the rear of the field. Now determined to salvage a good finish despite the rough start, he drove back up through the field and was inside the top 15 just four laps after the incident. As the race approached halfway, Danny had made his way inside the top ten, and continued to move forward as the final laps counted down. With the checkered flag in the air, O’Brien crossed the finish line with a sixth place finish.

“It was a good recovery after having to restart deep in the field”, says O’Brien. “We will continue to work hard, and hopefully we can get back to victory lane here soon. I have to thank the crew for all their hard work, and I also want to thank all the fans for sticking it out here on a cold night here at the track”.

Danny and his team had planned to return to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday after they had reschedule the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race from the previous week. Although the weather was beginning to clear in our area early Sunday morning, Cornwall was still getting hit with rain late morning, and with the rain from the previous day, the track was just in no shape for racing and were forced to postpone the event once again.

This coming weekend, Danny will be back in action at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night for the first round of the Ogilvie’s Auto Triple Crown Series 50 lap main event, and also plans to make the trip to Cornwall Sunday as they make their third attempt at getting their season started with the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series event.

Danny O’Brien would like to thank 1000 Islands RV Centre, Pat’s Rad, BOB FM, Ponte Bros. Masonry, Morrison Racing Engines, Snap-On Adam Way, Bicknell Racing Products, and Integra Racing Shocks for their continuous support and we look forward to a very exciting 2013 campaign.
