Danny O’Brien Looking to Seal the Deal on 11th BOS Track Championship; Also Leads the Way in Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series at Mohawk

Over the course of the 2014 season, Danny O’Brien has been on top of his game at Brockville Speedway, posting seven feature wins, including four consecutive victories to sweep the entire month of July. All of the hard work and effort has paid off so far, but the biggest prize still awaits with an impressive 11th track championship at Brockville on his doorstep.

Danny will enter Saturday night’s finale at Brockville Speedway with a massive 62 point lead in the standings. Double features were voted in by the fans, making the final night a little tricky for O’Brien, but barring any kind of disaster in the first event, O’Brien will come out on top for the 11th time at the BOS in his career.

“We have had a great year here at Brockville, but we aren’t quite finished yet, says O’Brien. “We have two more features to run here for points, and hopefully we can pick up another win or two”.

The BOS championship is not the only title that Danny could win this weekend, as he currently carries a two point advantage in the battle for the Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” 358 Modified Series at Mohawk International Raceway. Friday night’s 50 lap main event will be the series finale and Danny will be looking to close the series with a win, just as he opened the series with a win back on May 31st. Danny also has a mathematical chance of winning the overall Mohawk Raceway track title, but will have a 44 point deficit to make up, which is quite unlikely.

“We have struggled here at MIR this season, but have finished well enough in these Frenchie’s Series events to stay in contention”, says O’Brien. We will do our best Friday night and see where things play out in the end”.

In addition to the weekly events to end the regular season, O’Brien will also race at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night in their 125 lap DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race. O’Brien won this same Labor Day weekend event at Cornwall back in 2010, and had a podium finish in a similar 100 lap event at the beginning of the 2014 season.

Danny O’Brien Returns to Brockville Victory Lane for the Seventh Time in 2014; Continues to Lead the Way in Championship Standings at the BOS

The win streak may have ended at four last week, but it didn’t take Danny O’Brien long to find his way back after a thrilling performance again on Saturday night. O’Brien made a late race pass for victory on Saturday night at Brockville Speedway claiming his second consecutive Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series championship.

A timed hot lap session determined the lineup for the qualifying heat races, and Danny was fastest in his group and backed that up with a heat race win. The race was divided into three segments, with a possible inversion at the end of segment one and two. The first segment lasted 10 laps, in which Danny was out front. Come inversion time, the number on the inversion dice was three, and Danny would restart the race from the third position. Danny remained in third through segment two and once again a dice was rolled to determine the inversion. A six was rolled, meaning the top six cars would invert their positions for the start of the final segment. Danny remained in third to start segment three, and was up to second and began challenging for the lead halfway through the final segment. Danny swapped the lead a couple times through lap 55 before pulling away over the final couple circuits.

“The car worked great again tonight”, says O’Brien. “I really have to thank the crew, all of our sponsors and the great race fans for their support each week”.

O’Brien will return to Mohawk International Raceway this Friday night after a rare week off last week. He will also be back at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night as he looks to add to his 69 point lead in the chase for the BOS championship. There are just three point events remaining at each track in 2014.

Danny O’Brien Comes up Short in Quest for Fifth Consecutive Win at the BOS; Maintains Healthy Point Lead With Just Four Weeks Remaining

After a perfect month of July at Brockville Speedway, Danny O’Brien was looking for a similar start to the month of August after the BOS imposed a “Bounty” reward for anyone that could break his winning streak. Danny was also looking for a strong run at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night after struggling the past couple weeks.

Mohawk International Raceway was the first stop on the weekend schedule and O’Brien was looking to get back on track after a few disappointing results at MIR. Danny started his qualifying heat race from fifth and worked his way up to finish in second. He started the 25 lap feature from 11th on the starting grid and had moved up to sixth at one point, but the handling went away on the car late, and he faded to an eighth place finish.

“I don’t know what it is here, we just cant seem to get the car dialed in here recently”, says O’Brien. “We will keep plugging away at it, and hopefully we can get some strong finishes before the season is over”.

It was a big night at Brockville on Saturday night with the imposed “Bounty” adding to the night. A late afternoon thunderstorm was also thrown into the mix, causing havoc on the track conditions all night long. O’Brien was fast early, posting an extremely fast lap time of 14.1 seconds early in the night. Danny was up for a bonus himself if he were to start from the rear of the field, and shortly after coming on to the track to start the feature he chose to do so and started from the very end of the field. By lap nine, Danny was up to the top ten, but he was involved in an incident on the track, but was able to return to the rear of the field. O’Brien made steady progress throughout the event and managed a sixth place result.

O’Brien will have the night off at MIR on Friday night. He will return to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night for the final round of the Ogilvie’s Auto Triple Crown. O’Brien is the defending champion of the Ogilvie’s Series and is currently tied for first going into the finale. In the overall Brockville standings he is in first place with a commanding 61 point advantage with four events remaining.
